A Day of Play

shootsCaitlyn RylanderComment

Theres nothing better when you can get your girls together for a fun shoot and I was lucky enough to get all of my fav’s in for a little shoot at the shop. Sarah Ellefson the photo master was behind the camera. I love Sarah so much, she just makes your day so easy and you feel so comfy in front of the camera. We even snuck in some headshots. We had Lacey from 805 Make-Up come in to paint some faces. Lacey is so incredibly talented so the direction was basically do whatever. Full trust to make our new model friend Sandra glow.

I really just wanted to show off some headbands I have been cranking out for fun and most importantly that pressed flower veil. For flowers, I have been loving on the dried flower and grass trend real hard. I have been collecting different small textural flowers — mainly A LOT of limonium — and different dried grasses. The day before I scavengers the hillsides of Ventura for tall grass. SO MUCH TALL GRASS. I loved the result and have a feeling these pieces are going to be a focal point of the shop for a long time.

Rustic Romantic

Le Sangreal | Malibu, CA

Texture, anemone and jasmine was the name of the game for Geoff + Melissa for their big day this past April. It’s one of my favorite months for weddings in terms of seasonal availability. Spring time, the flower world is your oyster. For them we wanted to play up local rustic vibes with foraged olive, lavender, jasmine and pampas grass. We then added smaller textural flowers like misty blue, wax flower and astilbe. We still wanted to keep it blushy neutral so we added quicksand roses, carnations and anemone for that tiny pop of color. The venue, Le Sangreal is so gorgeous that we didn’t want to take away from the Malibu Hillsides that were so full of color bouncing back from the recent fires. Plus those views!

Ceremony we kept is simple with two large arrangements in wood bowls on wood pedestals with a light sprinkling of petals down the side of the aisle. We later repurposed those on the sweet heart table.

For the reception that was located on the main lawn we did a mix of vintage bottles on half the tables and small arrangements in low wood bowls. The Father in Law made the table menus that were so cute and festive for the taco dinner. Each place setting we swagged with foraged lavender that we tucked into the napkins on the bamboo plates.

Megan Macias of Festive Event Planning was running the show which always makes my day such a joy and so so easy especially when I am recovering from a broken wrist (!).

Ojai Vintage Boho

The Morgan House | Ojai, CA

Photo: Teri Kramer Photography

On the prettiest day in October Justin and Sara tied the knot at the Morgan House in sunny Ojai, CA. The Morgan House is quickly becoming one of my favorite wedding venues in Ventura County. Tucked into the rolling hills of Ojai the property features a killer hillside ceremony spot, a modern modern and a beauty of a man made lake for all your photo ops.

I originally met Sara at a wedding she was coordinating back in 2014 were we became the fastest of friends. Flash forward for wedding planning for her, we settled on a vintage meets boho meets Ojai vibe for her big day filled with color, crystals, and lots of hand made touches. One of which was that to die for triangle arch built by Justin himself. We wanted a lot of dried elements- pampas, palms, painted ferns - mixed with the fresh flowers to really pop the neutral colors against.

Inside for the barn reception we kept the tables simple with olive branches, candles, bud vases and crystals.

Once of my favorite pieces for them was Sara’s hair piece full of brown lisianthus, hellebore, berries, and pops of crystal points for extra sparkle. For the bouquet we did a mix of Koko Loco Roses from Grace Rose Farm, Patience Garden Roses, and Quicksand Roses for the focal point. We then mixed in lots of greenery and smaller textural flowers like scabiosa and anemone for darker pops.

Just like these two, it was perfect.

Modern Tropicana

Dos Pueblos Orchid Farm | Santa Barbara, CA

Planning: Brilliant Wedding Co | Shuttles: Jump On The School Bus | Signage: Brown & Co

Rentals: Party Pleasers | Specialty Rentals: Otis & Pearl | Stationary: Minted | DJ: Gavin Roy Events

Desserts: Enjoy Cupcakes | Photo & Video: I Heart My Groom

If there is a theme that I love more than anything else, its modern tropicana. Everything is just so luscious and vibrant and it could not be truer than Sean and Sierra’s big day.

With our focal flowers being commodore palms, fan palms, monstera, banana leaves, anthurium, orchids, and protea it made it an easy day to nail the lush green, white and pink color scheme.

For the ceremony we really just wanted to celebrate that view of the upper Santa Barbara coastline. We kept the decor low to the ground with two planter arrangements at the end of the decking. For aisle decor we did two protea and greenery swags which we later repurposed to the sweetheart peacock chairs for reception and tucked fan palms chair side down the aisle. I finally got to work with the epic signage queen Heather of Brown & Co to dress up her welcome sign, seating chart and marble table numbers.

For cocktail hour we kept it super clean. We took the couples air plant collection and potted mini palms for seated tables and use bud vases with a couple stems of anthurium for the hightop tables.

For reception, we wanted to keep the guest tables super low key with commodore palm garlands and Himalayan salt candles. For the head table we did small tropical arrangements and bud vases trailing in between with a large arrangement for the bride and groom.

It was the best day with such a killer group of vendors.
